MFC GIM News MFC Global Investment Management Appoints Jean-François Courville as CEO — June 4, 2009 Toronto — Warren A. Thomson, Chairman, MFC Global Investment Management (MFC GIM), is pleased to announce the appointment of Jean-François (J-F) Courville as Chief Executive Officer. In this role, Mr. Courville, 40, has overall responsibility for MFC GIM's third-party institutional and sub-advisory asset management businesses in North America, Europe and Asia, as well as for expanding investment management services to Manulife Financial's own wealth management businesses globally. He oversees asset allocation and investment management activities for approximately Cdn$96 billion (as at March 31, 2009) in client assets across multiple asset classes, from public equities and fixed-income to alternatives including timber and agricultural investments. Previously, Mr. Courville was President and Chief Operating Officer of MFC GIM. He succeeds Mr. Thomson who was recently appointed Chief Investment Officer of Manulife Financial, and also Chairman of MFC GIM. In 2007, Mr. Courville joined Manulife from State Street Canada where he had served as President and CEO since 2005. Prior to that, he held several posts within State Street Global Markets, the trading and research arm of State Street Bank and Trust, in Montréal, Toronto and Boston. Mr. Courville also worked in the trading operations of the National Bank of Canada in Montréal and London, England. He graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance and international business, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. In 2005, Mr. Courville was named to Canada's Top 40 under 40. Mr. Courville resides in Toronto.
